12th May 2020 France is still in lockdown because of the pandemic, this being said we are now allowed to travel withing a 100km radius from our house, luckily for me the Gorges du Verdon are located within that distance ! So after 2 months of strict lockdown it was time to start the day at 4am, take the road and arrive on this breathtaking canyon to capture the sunrise. Waking up that early is quite the comitment yes, but when you know that you will arrive on those type of roads completely empty for at least two hours, the choice is easy ! Located in South of France on the D2, this balcony road is one of the most stunning driving road of the area. Located just above the historical village of Gréolieres this mountain road is a complete feast for the eyes as well as a great place for driving enthusiast. Well famous from the chase scene confronting the Bond's aston DB5 and the ferrari 355 in Goldeneye, this road is now a common location for photoshoot and press drives like top gear and evo, and it's no surprise why. (DISCLAIMER: FULLY EDITED ON IPHONE) In those hard moment of lockdown and without the access to a computer I’ve manage to gather low quality footage on my phone to edit this short video. Located in south of France the Gorges de Daluis road is definitely a unique place. Following the canyon carved by the Var river this road has two configurations depending on which direction you’re driving it. Driving it from south to north the road follows the edge of the canyon and rolls around the massive rocks formations. A really twisty single lane way with stunning views and a proximity to a pretty deep canyon. Turn around after the 6km of the Gorges and on the opposite direction you will be surprised by road that cuts through the rocks with a succession of 17 tunnels, a dream for exhaust enthusiasts ! Definitely faster and less twisty that way back will still be a memorable moment rushing in those tunnels inches away from the famous red rock of the Gorges de Daluis. When you have a Audi sport R8 RWS tunned by APR, and you drive up to the Col des Champs at the beginning of the Alps, what is the first thing you do..... well if you ask VIAMONTIS he will run straight for the sketchiest gravel road you can find there ! Located just above the village of Castellane at the entrance of the famous Gorges du Verdon, the lake Castillon stands out by its crazy turquoize water. Quite the attraction for water activities in summer it is also a perfect background for a nice drive on its shore. The Col de la Bonette is one of the best mountain road you can find in Europe, it's long, the view is breathtaking and driving it is a pure pleasure. Having the chance of living near by I have been there a lot of times, by all season and all sorts of weather. This said it was my first time having the opportunity to get there just a few days after the opening of the road. And what a view it was! The snow was still covering the highest part of the road, the road was basically empty, and offered an amazing view. Last summer I spent 2 days on the Stelvio. From the busy afternoon with hundreds of people, to more quiet evening, to completely empty morning the Stelvio offers different experiences. Each faces of the Stelvio deliver a special feeling but an empty morning with no noise around and the road for yourself will be for ever a moment I will remember. The Stelvio Pass one of the most famous mountain pass in the world, probably the most legendary pass for the petrol head. Located in the Italian mountain linking South Tyrol and Sondrio province. Climbing the sudtirol side with its 48 numbered hairpin turns is definitely something to remember. Every year thousands of motorbike rider, cyclist or petrol head are heading there to conquer the 2,757 m of the Stelvio ! Last month, I spent two days exploring Hong Kong's finest roads ! HK is such a special place, a small independent territory on Chinese coast home to an incredible car culture.
